I want to make potato salad, but I don’t have dill pickle relish. I have hot dog relish, but I don’t know if it would taste right.

I have used hot dog relish before to make potato salad and it will make a fine potato salad alright, on the sweet side, since hot dog relish is make with high fructose corn syrup or sugar, as opposed to kosher dill which is a lot more on the vinegar side. I would suggest adding a little dill weed to the potato salad if you want that kosher dill flavor.

sure can!! but you could also chop a pickle!
One time I did use the hotdog relish for the potato salad. My mother’s recipe calls for equal portions of Mayo and Prepared Mustard. So I used about half as much mustard as normal and used the pickle relish to do that salad. It turned out great.
One time I used the honey dijon mustard instead of the classic yellow prepared! It was even better!
You can do anything you wish including leaving out the pickle relish as I used to leave out the raw chopped onions because they gave my grandmother heartburn.

Most hot dog relish I see has a slight yellow tint due to mustard. If you like mustard potato salad this will not change the flavor of the salad. The sweetness of the pickles may influence the taste if you prefer dill pickles instead of sweet pickles since most pickle relish is made with sweet pickles.

Yes, go ahead and use it. My mother and grandmother always used sweet pickle relish in their salads and they always turned out great.

It will taste fine – add a little extra mustard for tartness.

I think that should be ok.
If you are worried then serve hot dogs with your potato salad.
I would eat it!

Yeah, and actually classic tater salad uses cut up pickles not relish.

I don’t think it would taste all that good, and I would use spring onions instead.
