Question by bigbird: What brand/type of vegetarian burgers would you recommend?
I am NOT a vegetarian, but I’ve been asked to cook some vegetarian burgers at an upcoming party. Is there a brand/type that you recommend? Are they better homemade? If so, do you have a good recipe to share?

morning star farms is the best in my opinion. and buying from the store is way easier than trying to make it by hand

Question by insolent redhead: How can I stop my burgers from shrinking so much?
Every time I make burgers, they shrivel up. I’ve tried making them thinner, using more meat, and adjusting the cooking time. They still taste good, but end up really small. Is there something I can do/add that will help them retain more of their size?

If it matters, I either cook them on a George Foreman grill or in a skillet. I live in an apartment with strict rules about outside grills, so that’s not an option right now.

Buy leaner ground meat, like ground chuck or ground sirloin. They shrink because the fat cooks out.

I’m doing a school project on which burgers have the most grease out of McDonalds, Burger King, and Wendys. If any of you people out there work at any of these restaurants, or just know how they fry their ORIGINAL burgers, please list how. Thanks!

Question by jade scarlette : How to cook homemade versions of the frozen veggie burgers, etc?
And would it be cheaper to make it homemade or to buy them already made?
I’m talking about the garden burgers, black bean burgers, chick*n patties and nuggets, etc etc etc.
Do you think it would be cheaper to make these myself and freeze them, or to just buy them already made from Boca, Morningstar, etc?
And do you have any recipes or ideas on how to make these homemade?

Some of the types you have listed I have not made myself, or have not had success, but the burgers are pretty easy to do. I can’t really duplicate the Boca burgers though, maybe thats just me.

Bean burgers are easy. Its a can of beans, spices you like, veggies you like (onion, green pepper, etc), 1 egg (or egg replacement) and a bit of breadcrumbs. Mash it all up and press it into patty shapes. You can fry in oil or on the grill, though you need to make sure the patty is firm enough to make it over a grill.

I forgot to say that if you chill the patties they will stay together better. You can also freeze at this point, and then cook from frozen.

Question by Nisi: Need a good side for burgers besides french fries?
I am making blue cheese mushroom burgers for dinner (never had it hope it tastes good) and need something besides french fries for a side dish. Something healthy and summery and something kid friendly!
If I can find the sweet potato fries in a bag I’ll try that. Last time I made them homemade they tasted horrible and the kids and I ended up throwing them out.
